Charlemagne also known as Karl and Charles the great, was a Medieval emperor who ruled much of Western Europe from 768 to 814. In 771, Charlemagne became king to a germanic tribe. Charlemagne gave money and land to the Christian church and protected all the popes. He had a great power and proved to be a talented diplomat and able administrator of the vast area that he controlled. It took 32 years before Charlemagne completely conquered the Saxons from 772 to 804, he expanded the Frankish Empire. He conquered much of the Saxon territories expanding into what is today's Germany. He displayed a talent that he could speak other languages and could speak Latin and understand Greek, and other languages. He promoted education and encouraged the Carolingian Renaissance. Charles the Great died at the age of 71 in January 28, 814CE and now Charlemagne is now referred to the father of Europe because of the great work he did for everyone and everyone looked up to him like a dad and thats the way Europe see’s him.
